If you want to write a book… freaking write your book. And goodbye to Your Daily Writing Habit.

“It is always important to know when something has reached its end. Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesn’t matter what we call it; what matters is to leave in the past those moments in life that are over.”

Paulo Coelho

If you want to write a book, then write a book.

Simple right? But before you laugh at me, think for a moment about all the prerequisites that you’ve set for yourself, things you think need to happen in order to write a book. All the rules you’ve set for yourself.

“I don’t have time to write a book. Nobody cares what I have to say. I’ll probably just quit anyway. People will judge me for the thoughts in my head. Every book idea has already been written. Nobody will buy my book. Before I start writing I have to have my entire publishing plan in place. I’ve never written anything so I can’t write a book. People will think I’m egotistical for writing a book.”

And so on.

Here’s the great news – you are within your rights to throw every single one of your book writing rules right out the window! In book writing reality those rules don’t matter. But consider that if you still haven’t written your book, maybe you’re telling yourself that they do.

If you want to write a book, then freaking write your book.

That was the final “Mindset Monday” message from my daily podcast for authors, Your Daily Writing Habit earlier this month.

In 2019, sitting at my desk and speaking into a $14.99 very poor quality microphone, I welcomed authors to the very first episode of a new podcast called Your Daily Writing Habit with the following words:

Welcome to episode 1 of Your Daily Writing Habit! I am your host Christine Whitmarsh but people call me “Christine Ink” – that’s I-N-K like you write with.

I am so excited for this opportunity to share with you the daily writing habits I have accumulated over my 18 years as a celebrity ghostwriter and book coach. The habits you will learn are a mix of writing fundamentals, productivity, and mindset. I’ve found through my experience that you need all three of those things to succeed as an author, whether as a side hobby or as a professional.

My goal with this podcast was to gather up all my pet peeves about other podcasts and do the exact opposite things.

I’m kidding!

What I did want to do was create a bite-sized, motivational, daily call to action for authors. Information and inspiration you could put to use right away and something you could use as a brief, daily kick in the butt to work on your book. I’ve been told by numerous authors over the years that it worked. Thank you to those of you who reached out over the years – I truly appreciate it!

But alas, I think it was the Lone Ranger who said – “my work here is done.” On Friday, July 14th,  the final new episode of Your Daily Writing Habit aired. But never fear! You can now catch episodes of the show over on my YouTube channel. I release episodes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Subscribe now to get caught up on all 1,500+ habits reinforcing episodes.

Thank you to my YDWH listeners, I hope you enjoyed the ride!
